October is here, and I’m welcoming the cooler temperatures, changing leaves and pumpkin spice everything! We have a very busy month ahead. We’ll continue learning our names and begin to explore colors, learn new songs, and practice working with scissors and gluesticks. Here is a quick look at some important details to keep in mind:
Fri, Oct 4th: Picture Day! Look for envelopes in the hallway.
Tues, Oct 15th: Dissect a pumpkin day! May want to wear old clothes today
Fri, Oct 18th: Zittel’s field trip. The field trip begins at 10:30 and lasts about an hour. The cost for each student is $8.50. Please place cash in an envelope with your child’s name printed on it and place it in the box located on the shelf. A parent or guardian will need to stay at Zittel’s during the field trip. Younger siblings are welcome, however, they will not be able to receive the items that our students will get (a snack & free pumpkin). Thank you for your understanding. We do not come to school on this day; we go directly to Zittel’s Farm Market. Zittel’s is located on Southwestern Blvd. near the corners of South Park and Southwestern.
Tues, Oct 22nd: Show and tell.
Tues, Oct 25th: Gym day. Please wear comfortable clothes and sneakers.
Tues, Oct 29th: Halloween party! The children may wear their costumes to school on this day, but please bring masks or accessories in backpacks. We will complete our costumes before we go trick-or-treating.
We welcome 2 helpers to stay during class time to assist with our party centers, and an additional 4 helpers to hand out candy during our trick or treat parade. Please see the sign-up sheet on the bulletin board.

LSCNS participates in Scholastic Reading Club. This program allows families to purchase books for kids at a low cost and have them delivered right to our school. Every order helps our classroom earn free books, supplies, and more. Each month, you will see flyers on the shelf in the hallway. Pick one up, browse through it, and, if you choose, fill out the order form and place it in the Scholastic box on the shelf. All orders may be paid by check, payable to Scholastic Reading Club or online at www.scholastic.com/readingclub with class code J3HTZ. We will post the monthly due dates for orders on the flyers each month. If you have any questions, please email firstname.lastname@example.org and the parent in charge of the program will get back to you.
Please be sure to always park in the main parking lot on the east side of the building. No parking is allowed in the small lot west of our classroom or along the shoulder of Roberts Road. Please use caution when driving or walking in the parking lot or on the sidewalks.
